About Bill

I was born in what is now called the upstate of South Carolina, in

Greenville. My parents, my three older brothers, our dog Jett, and

I moved from there to north of Atlanta in northern Georgia when

I was three.  Later, after having finished high school while still in the

greater Atlanta area, I lived around the country in various places

including South Lake Tahoe and  the central coast of California.

But the longer I lived in other places, the more I yearned to get

back to the south or to the southern hills and mountains.

Asheville and these southern mountains had long held attraction for me. My parents, my brothers (and maybe my baby sister) and I had visited these mountains when I was a very young child and I still have some vivid memories from that trip. I also had some very interestingly influential trips hanging out on an old farm on the East Tuckasegee River as a young adult.  When a door opened, our family of six and our dog, Katie, moved to the Asheville area in 1991 and I have lived in and around the Asheville area ever since.

Earlier I had worked in OEM technical sales, then I did more school and did some some teaching.

I entered real estate here, with the specific goal of learning the land business.  I became a North Carolina real estate licensee in 1994, back when there were both salesperson and broker licenses still,  and I have been a full broker since 1997.

Very late in 1994, I started at Northland Properties out 25/70 just outside of Weaverville.  They had several good land people there and it was a great place to learn the land business. Several very nice folks worked there and we also had a lot of fun.  It no longer exists.

Then I was the REALTY EXECUTIVES® land guy from 1997 to 1999 at their old Asheland Ave. office in downtown Asheville. That office had many good brokers. It also no longer exists.

From 1999 to 2007 I was the RE/MAX® land guy at the large, RE/MAX Advantage Realty® office on the south side of College Street just on the downtown side of the tunnel.  It was a bustling office with a lot of great brokers and it was also a very fun place to work. Sadly, it also no longer exists.

Since 2007 I have been the broker in charge at my own company, WNC LAND COMPANY.  I have continued to specialize in helping people to sell and buy land, farms and retreats in the Asheville area and in its surrounding counties.

Outside of work, my interests are music, old movies, history, figuring out how the world system works, sports car racing, Austrian economics, permaculture, sound money and liberty.

And I also love dogs!  And a few Friday or Saturday nights a year, you might also find me enjoying good local or regional racing at a dirt track or at a small paved oval out in the country around here.

Formal Training

Since my educational background might be of interest to some of you... as an undergraduate, I was a Business Administration and Economics double-major at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.

I have a Masters of International Management with the business work concentrated in Marketing from the American Graduate School of International Management, Thunderbird Campus, then in Glendale, AZ.

The "more school" was at Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS, and it made me a Ph.D. Economist.  The Ph.D. itself was in a specialized field of economics that used to be called Land Economics but that is now called Agricultural Economics.
